What is the Best Alternative to Canva?

Canva is an online design tool that allows you to create photo collages, social media graphics, posters, and much more. With its huge library of visual assets and ready-made templates, Canva is perfect for novice designers who need to make professional-looking layouts fast.

However, the platform’s raster-based tools make it somewhat limited for experienced designers who prefer total creative freedom. With the Vectornator app, there are no limits to what you can design. With our powerful vector tools, you can express your creativity through unique designs that are infinitely scalable.

Vector-based Tools Win

Canva features an impressive library of templates, free-to-use photos, and graphic elements. However, its users are limited to raster tools. That means anything you create in Canva will become grainy when scaled up.

You don’t have to worry about size and resolution in Vectornator, though. Our intuitive, vector-based graphic design platform includes powerful design tools that allow total creative freedom. Anything you draw in Vectornator can be endlessly tweaked and scaled to any size.

Professional Branding

If you want to create branding for business owners, Vectornator is a fantastic graphic design tool. Our powerful features and vector-based tools give designers ultimate control when creating logos and other branding elements. Design doesn't have to be complicated, which is why we strive to keep workflows simple.

For example, you can use the Auto Trace tool to turn your logo sketches into vector paths, and then use the Node Tool to refine the design. And since it’s made using vector software, it’s infinitely scalable and ready for your client to print on business cards, t-shirts, billboards, and more.

Next-Level Design

Canva is a drag-and-drop editor that’s ideal for beginner graphic designers, but it’s unfit for advanced designers who need precision-level tools. Vectornator is easy to learn, but our powerful features allow you to take your design skills to the next level.

Vectornator is remarkably intuitive, but if you need some guidance, our Design Tips articles and Blog tutorials will help you master our tools. The best part? You can download Vectornator for free!

Desktop-Level Precision on All Your Devices

Vectornator's features help you design with precision and innovation with just your finger. Experience all the attention to detail you'd receive on a desktop program on your iPad and iPhone as well. And if you want to use an Apple Pencil for even more accuracy, we support that too. Work the way that's best for you!

So, why choose Vectornator?

Custom Fonts

Our integrated Fontinator feature allows you to import any font file format (.TTF, .OTF) and install it directly onto your iPhone or iPad. Your favorite fonts will be waiting for you in the Font Picker in Vectornator, where you can use them for any creative project. Fontinator is particularly useful for graphic designers who work for multiple brands since everything is stored neatly on iCloud.

Multiple Grid Options

Grids allow designers to manage the alignment and spacing between UI elements, and Vectornator supports two types: a perpendicular grid and an isometric grid. While the perpendicular grid acts as a simple 2D guide, the isometric grid empowers designers to think in 3D. Our additional guide tools provide even more options for achieving perfect placements.

All Vector Tools

Our tools are vector-based. That means you can create digital paintings and graphic designs that can be scaled up or down to any size, all while keeping a crisp, clean aesthetic.

Free Vector Icons

We created Iconator, a library of over 80,000 royalty-free icons integrated into the Vectornator app. You can drop these vector elements straight into your document and modify and scale them to your exact specifications. This feature is incredibly useful for UI designers who might not have the time or skills to create illustrations from scratch. Find Iconator in the Library Tab.

Sketch or Photography?

If you don’t know which Auto Trace mode to choose, don’t worry—Vectornator can do it for you! With our CoreML Machine Learning model, our Auto Trace feature will analyze your images and automatically select the “Photography” or “Sketch” mode.

Sketch Mode scans your drawings on paper and turns your pen and pencil lines into editable vector paths. This mode works particularly well with hand-drawn lettering and logos.

How much does Canva cost?

There are three types of Canva memberships with different price points: Free, Pro, and Enterprise.

With the Free, basic plan you can access 250,000+ templates,  plus thousands of graphics and free photos. You'll also benefit from Canva's key features and basic editing tools, such as being able to collaborate with your team in real-time.

With the Pro plan, you'll get everything the Free plan has, plus premium stock photos, more templates, brand kits, and lots more. This yearly plan gives up to five people unlimited access to the Pro features, so it's perfect for a small team.

If you buy the Enterprise Plan, a team of 25 people can enjoy the basic features mentioned above, plus unlimited storage, additional features, and more control when it comes to designing in teams. For companies needing an awesome design tool that's easy to use, Enterprise is the perfect team plan.

Can you edit photos in Canva?

Both Photoshop and Canva are raster graphics editing software, but they're very different.

Canva is a web-based graphic design platform for non-designers to create quick designs, while Photoshop is an extremely powerful photo editing tool and graphic design software for professionals. Canva's user interface is very intuitive, making the tool easy to learn. However, Photoshop requires hours of learning and practice to master.

Canva is designed to be extremely user-friendly and accessible to users, regardless of their skill level. The free version includes thousands of templates and graphic editor tools that are perfect for creating visual content like social media images. However, it does have its limitations. Therefore, Photoshop is the better option for professionals and advanced designers.

Where are my Canva files stored?

Canva is an online editor that automatically saves your designs as you work. All your designs will be in the "Your Projects" folder on your Canva homepage. And when you're ready to export them, you can download and save your designs to your device. You could then store them in Google Drive, iCloud, or wherever you like!

Is Canva easy to use?

Canva is super easy to use, but if you need some help navigating the popular online tool, there are plenty of video tutorials available that explain its range of features.

If you're a professional designer, you might prefer to use a design tool like Vectornator. We have a range of templates and a wide array of vector-based tools to help you create all kinds of visuals. Find out how easy it is to use Vectornator via our Learning Hub.
